Authentication

Business Network Portal online application authentication can be managed either with locally federated users or with Single Sign-On (SSO):

  1. Locally Federated Users: Users authenticate directly with the application using a local identity management system. User credentials and access permissions are managed within the Business Network Portal’s own authentication system. This approach provides control over user access but requires individual account management within the application.

  2. Single Sign-On (SSO): Users log in using a single set of credentials across multiple applications and platforms. SSO relies on a trusted third-party identity provider to authenticate users, allowing them to access the application without re-entering password. Users are required to fill in their user id, which then leads them to the clients own identity provider with possible multi-factor-authentication (MFA). This method streamlines access, improves security by centralizing authentication, and provides a seamless experience for users across different applications.

Both methods offer secure access, but SSO is particularly suited for environments where users need quick, unified access to multiple tools.

HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure) is used when transferring data between a web browser and Business Network Portal. HTTPS uses encryption to protect data in transit, making it essential for safeguarding sensitive information like login credentials, personal data, and transaction details.
